2026 Taiwan Cittaslow Annual Meeting | A Slow Journey to Majia
This year, the world came to Majia, Pingtung! 🌿🌏
The 2026 Taiwan Cittaslow Annual Meeting was held in Majia Township, welcoming international guests from Korea, Japan, the United States, and Malaysia. Together with Cittaslow communities from across Taiwan, they gathered in Majia to exchange ideas, share experiences, and immerse themselves in the rich Indigenous culture and unique charm of this mountain community.
This year’s meeting focused on the theme “How AI Can Help Preserve Traditional Culture and Support Sustainable Tourism.” Starting from the rapid development of technology, we returned to what matters most in every town: its culture and way of life. Together, we explored how AI can help preserve unique local stories in a changing world—not only keeping traditional culture alive, but also helping it be seen, understood, and passed on to future generations.
This international exchange went far beyond the conference room. Our international guests visited local communities, discovered Indigenous culture, tasted local flavors, and experienced the landscapes and everyday life of Majia. Through these encounters, they saw how Cittaslow communities in Taiwan are working to protect the land, preserve local culture, and find a sustainable balance between tradition and modern life.
Guests from different countries brought their own stories to Majia, and took stories of Taiwan back home with them. Through Cittaslow as a bridge for international exchange, communities from different parts of the world can learn from one another, inspire one another, and create new connections. It is also an opportunity for Taiwan’s small towns to step onto the international stage and share their rich and unique ways of life with the world.
From Majia, we connect with the world; from one small town, we let the world discover Taiwan. 🌏💚
